The main theme for chapters 6 through ten is basically that Katniss and Peeta are amazed at where they are. Everything about the capitol amazes Katniss, from the glass elevators to the elaborate food to the shower that has about a million buttons. Awe is a large part of the first couple of chapters. Companionship is another, because Peeta and Katniss do everything but breath together. Distress is another, because when Katnis learns that Peeta has joined the careers, she dosent know what to think.

Chapter Six: It's starts out with Katniss seeing the grandeur of the capitol through the training center where the tributes will be staying. Her quarters are filed to the brim with capitol 'Necessities' that anyone would find exorbitant. The have a full wardrobe that operates with the push of a button, a shower with about a hundred different settings, and a giant menu where food appears at the push of a button. After she gets ready, she goes to dinner with the team. For dessert, they bring in a cake and a serving girl sets it on fire! While the girl sets it on fire, Katniss shouts out "I know you!" but as soon as she dose feels horrible and scared. The girl is terrified. Effie reminds Katniss that the girl is an Avox, and therefore Katniss can not possibly know her. Peeta saves the day by claiming that the girl looks like someone from the Seam- Delly Cartwright. Total lie. Later, to find out why he helped her, Peeta gets Katniss to come to the roof and fill him in. She dose so, in the garden where no-one can hear them. They part ways, and Katniss falls asleep, wondering if the Avox girl will enjoy watching her die.
Chapter seven: Katniss wakes up after having horrible dreams and hops into the shower she still hasn't learned to use and heads to a generous buffet breakfast. Haymitch and Peeta arrive, with Peeta wearing (yet another) matching outfit. Training starts today, so Peeta and Katniss tell Haymitch all of the strengths of the other. When Peeta says that Katniss will win, she counters with "I only survived because someone helped me." Haymitch tells them to pick up useful skills and stay together. They start by learning survival skills like knot-tyinig and camouflage. During lunch they sit together and keep up the conversation. On the evening of the second day, Katniss asks him to not pretend when others are not around. Then it's more of the same. on the Third day, she shows of her skills during her session with the Game-makers. Frustrated that none of them are taking her seriously, she shoots an arrow in their roast pig, and storms off. Ouch!
